PHLPost to issue Pia Wurtzbach stamps
MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach's image will be immortalized in a postage stamp. The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) announced that it will be coming out with a limited number of stamps featuring an image of Pia's winning moment.
According to the press release published on Thursday, April 7, the postage stamps will be released once they have been approved by the Miss Universe Organization and Binibining Pilipinas Charities Incorporated. PHLPost hopes to launch the stamp this month depending on Pia's availability.
In the same press release, PHLPost Officer-in-charge-Postmaster General Joel Otarra said that they were pleased to create the stamp.
"The Philippine Postal Corporation takes pride in honoring our very own Ms Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach by immortalizing her with a postage stamp as the third Filipina to win the prestigious and much coveted Miss Universe crown," he said.
The stamp and souvenir sheets feature Pia waving to the crowd with the Miss Universe crown on her head. According to the press release, the souvenir sheet features "a special embellishment called tactile glittery texture embossed to enhance the important look and feel of the stamps."
Pia is the latest "living legend" to have her own stamp. Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran, and Miss World 2013 Megan Young were also featured on stamps.
Pia is scheduled to return to Manila on Wednesday, April 13, in time for the Bb Pilipinas coronation night on Sunday, April 17. A press conference is scheduled for her on April 14, Thursday. – Rappler.com
