MANILA, Philippines – Three weeks into the new year and there are still fireworks, but one from last week’s was not a pretty sight.

Here’s a rundown of what caught our eye from January 20 to 26, 2013:

Megamall shooting

A robbery prompted a shooting incident at SM Megamall on Saturday, January 26.

Some who were inside and near the mall took to Twitter to provide live updates from the crime scene.

Sperm whales adopt dolphin with deformed spine

Sperm whales and bottlenose dolphins don’t usually get along because they have opposite characteristics. While the former moves slower and is aloof, the latter likes to show-off.

That is why researchers were amazed to see a school of sperm whales traveling with a dolphin. 

The spotted dolphin suffers from a rare spinal curvature which makes it unable to swim at its average speed and maybe unable to live on its own.

Sweet, right?

Obama inaguration

President US Barack Obama once again spoke about his support for the LGBT community (Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transexual) during his 2nd Inaugural Address on January 21, 2013 (January 22, Manila time).

Supporters on social media immediately picked up and shared what the president had to say.
