MANILA, Philippines – At 22 – while still a student and her parents’ last known source of income was government contracts gone bad – Jeane Napoles bought a luxurious Los Angeles apartment worth $1.85 million (around P80 million), Rappler said in an exclusive report on Wednesday, July 31.

The online scene was immediately abuzz with mostly incredulous reactions. And this was understandable. Just before this, the daughter of alleged pork barrel scam brains Janet Lim-Napoles had been blogging about her lavish lifestyle, and so had been considered by some quarters as an obvious lead to her mother’s supposedly unexplained wealth.

So Rappler asked netizens: What did you own #at22?

We got a range of answers, but definitely none came close to a flat in a building where Hollywood celebrities and public figures live. And this probably explains the outrage over the findings of the Rappler report.
