One True Pairings: Couples we really wish got together

MANILA, Philippines – Have you ever looked at two fictional characters and just felt the need to curl up and screech in glee?

Whether because they’re super adorable and meant-to-be or because their writers are keeping them apart just to torment you, you sometimes can’t help but feel intense emotions when looking at your OTPs.

There are a few terms we’ll need to define before getting deeper into this article:

Ship – Derived from the word relationship. This term can be used as a verb or a noun to couple two fictional or non-fictional people.

OTP or One True Pairing – This is the combination of two people who you firmly believe should be together. You select a ship (or multiple ships) and hold those above all others; they are your OTPs.

Fangirling – the act of spazzing out over something or someone your are extrememly passionate about.

Feels – when intense emotions take over your very being and you just can’t handle it.

Everyone has their own ships and OTPs. We may call it different terms like “dream couple” or “love team,” but the basics of being a fangirl are common knowledge: you see them, you realize they’d be great together, you express your devotion for this pairing, you give up your soul in some unholy sacrifice to try and make it happen.

Don’t even try to deny it, there is a fangirl in us all just waiting for the proper amount of feels to come spazzing out of hiding. We’re no different. Here are our top 5 OTPs and why we love them.

Johnlock (BBC’s Sherlock)

From the moment John met Sherlock, there was clear chemistry between them that not even Mrs. Hudson could deny. In fact, a lot of the first episode was devoted to teasing them for moving in together at 221-B Baker Street and all the awkward adorable banter that came with it. By the time John called Sherlock an idiot, there were multiple homo-erotic fanart of the best friends up online.

The interesting thing about this ship is that the writers have been listening to what the fans whisper among themselves and deliberately adding fuel to the fire by putting little teases in the show.

 

TenxRose (Doctor Who)

Although he was still the Ninth Doctor when he met her and their will-they-won’t-they-we-all-know-they-will relationship began, it was during his tenth regeneration that their love story truly blossomed. When The Doctor switched into a younger and extrememly attractive man, viewers were ecstatic and so was then companion Rose Tyler.

Nobody knew how it would possibly work out, because he’s a Timelord, but everyone was hoping that every promise of forever would come true. In the end, after a heart-wrenching goodbye in Doomsday, the writers made it work out in a stroke of genius move by sending Tentoo to stand in Ten’s place.

 

JonxDaenerys (Game of Thrones)

The son of ice and the mother of dragons. There is no doubt this is one of the most physically attractive ships in the Game of Thrones fandom, but it’s also an obvious thing for fans to put together these two orphans-fighting-for-family. From the beginnng of the series, fans saw these two characters from opposite worlds, leading startlingly different lives and they thought, “Perfect.”

We are one in holding tightly to the hope that these two characters finally cross paths. After all, who better to thaw a frozen heart than she who controls the fire of dragons?

 

Harmony/Dramione (Harry Potter)

Hermione Granger may be the brightest witch of her age but she is also arguably the most shippable character at Hogwarts. There isn’t a pairing with her that hasn’t been fantasized about: SnapexHermione, FilchxHermione, LunaxHermione, Past!HermionexPresent!Hermione, anything is possible really.

Two of the biggest ships in the Harry Potter fandom are HarryxHermione, because she was much closer with him than she was with Ron anyway, and their love story would have been just the sweetest thing ever, and DracoxHermione, because we all know Gryffindor’s little good girl has her own dark and very sexy side.

 

HarveyxDonna (Suits)

From the special Can Opener ritual that only they do together, to the all-access pass Harvey gives Donna, how do you not ship them? The chemistry between these two is undeniable. Who else in the series can actually read Harvey’s moods based on the way he walks, talks, and dresses?

Donna is without a doubt an important part of Harvey’s life. Having been with Mr. Privacy from day one, we’ve seen them grow together and we’re now just waiting for them to get together.

Ships can come in all shapes and sizes and from all sorts of fandoms (Disney fandom, household Items fandom, Bible fandom) and Rappler’s Social Media team has one favorite OTP that’s been giving us intense feels.
