HACKED. Anonymous announces hackings of various sites worldwide.

MANILA, Philippines - CNET reports that a new round of hackings of various sites is on the agenda for Anonymous in commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day, November 5.

Notable among the growing list of hacked or defaced websites are claims that Anonymous has dumped the user and employee account information of PayPal and Symantec accounts, in addition to dumping the information from accounts on Australian government websites.

The hackings appear to be anti-surveillance in sentiment. Anonymous is announcing its hacks through various affiliated Twitter accounts, following up the hackings with defacements of other websites as well as document dumps from hacked websites.

Among the affected websites announced by Anonymous are ImageShack (claims of a zero-day vulnerability were used in this case), Symantec, PayPal, NBC.com, numerous Australian sites, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Anonymous also claims to have leaked the VMware ESX Server Kernel source code.

Anonymous is also attempting to get the public to gather for a V for Vendetta-style protest at the Houses of Parliament in London on the evening of November 5, as well as demonstrations in other cities such as Stockholm. - Rappler.com
