MANILA, Philippines – Is a lesser-priced iPhone in the works at Apple? Word from the Wall Street Journal is pointing towards that possibility.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, “people briefed on the matter” have made it known that a lower-end model of the iPhone is coming, though some speculation as to how Apple is to make this happen is still up for debate.

The report mentions how the cost of the device could be lowered by using a different body type or taking advantage of a polycarbonate plastic shell instead of aluminum housing.

Other parts may also be the same as or otherwise be adapted or recycled from older iPhone models.

An Apple spokesperson has declined to comment on the matter, leaving the potential for a new, less expensive iPhone model up for debate. – Rappler.com
