MANILA, Philippines – Facebook announced important milestones in its 4th quarter earnings report for 2012, Thursday January 31 (Manila time) noting that a majority of the social network’s over a billion active users access the site from mobile devices.

According to Facebook’s Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2012 Results, Facebook’s monthly active users (MAUs) hit 1.06-B as of December 31, 2012. Facebook defines active users as people who log-in to their accounts, or take an action to share content among other Facebook-related activities on Facebook or a 3rd party site that is integrated with Facebook.

The number of daily active users (DAUs) hit 618 million on average for December 2012 while the number of mobile monthly active users hit 680 million as of December 31, 2012. This is the first time that mobile daily active users have exceeded web-based daily active users.
