MANILA, Philippines - IP-Converge and Symantec announced on Tuesday, February 12, a partnership that would provide a new service for Philippine companies looking for peace of mind with their data.

The two companies launched IPC Backup Cloud, a cloud-based enterprise-level data backup service. This service aims to provide automated backup services to small and medium enterprises looking to keep their data safe in the event of an emergency.

The process of using IPC Backup Cloud seems simple enough. After installing Symantec NetBackup to a customer's server and determining what data is saved, how often it's sent to the backup servers, and the underlying goals in the event of a disaster, IPC Backup Cloud takes care of everything else.

Clients pay a monthly fee based on the amount of data backed up, allowing individual businesses to tailor the backup service to their needs. Currently, the monthly fee is set at increments of $150 for 100GB of data.

IP-Converge and Symantec tout the in-country solution as providing better network latency for Philippine businesses. This translates to faster recovery when a backup is needed and less downtime for a company. The use of deduplication technology also allows for faster backups, as the tech backs up only the changed data rather than copying everything over repeatedly.

"The ability to quickly recover from a disaster is critical for businesses today," explains Luichi Robles, Symantec's Senior Country Manager for the Philipppines. "A sound disaster preparedness and business continuity plan combined with technologies such as cloud computing, enable businesses to better prepare for and quickly recover from potential disasters." - Rappler.com
