MANILA, Philippines - Despite a fear of falloff following its embroilment in the social media scuffles of Twitter and Facebook, Instagram has moved into 2013 with a new milestone.

The photo-sharing service announced it had breached 100 million monthly active users mark on Wednesday, February 27 (Philippine time).

While it was earlier reported in that the service had 100 million total users, the wording of the monthly active user base milestone is meant to counter the idea of Instagram's decline following the removal of Twitter cards support and the implementation of its current terms of service.

Of this new milestone, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom is grateful for the support. He writes in the announcement, "Instagram, as a tool to inspire and connect, is only as powerful as the community it is made of.
