MANILA, Philippines – Smart Telecommunications is providing its users with the ability to communicate on Twitter-enabled phones for free.

In a new promotion from Smart, “all Smart prepaid and postpaid subscribers who use a smartphone or even a basic but internet-capable handset” can now use Twitter without paying for connectivity costs.

Smart subscribers can do this from now until July 31 by going to the mobile version of Twitter at http://m.twitter.com on their mobile browsers. Links on Twitter that point to websites outside of Twitter will still be charged to one’s account when clicked, but a paywall will appear to warn users if they’re leaving the free Twitter service.

The initiative to give free access to certain services is a regular occurrence in the telecoms scene. Globe also offered a similar free Twitter initiative back in 2012, and currently also offers free access to Google services with Google’s Free Zone offering.

More details on Smart’s Twitter offering can be found by visiting the Smart page for the free Twitter initiative or by texting TWITTER to 211 (for Prepaid and regular postpaid users), to 7577 (for All-In users), or to 9990 (for Freedom users). – Rappler.com
