MANILA, Philippines – If you’ve been on the fence about using multi-platform messaging service WhatsApp on your iPhone, now looks like a good time to consider adding it to your list of applications.

Forbes reports that WhatsApp changed its iPhone revenue model, letting go of its US$0.99 upfront fee and making it free to download and use for the first year.

Following the first year of use, users are asked to subscribe to WhatsApp to maintain the service. The price is set at US$1 yearly.

While the website FAQ doesn’t reference the change in revenue model yet, the App Store page for WhatsApp does show the payment model change.

The App update also comes with some new features. WhatsApp on the iPhone now lets users send multiple photos in one message. It also allows different URL schemes for third-party applications and comes with the ability to back up conversations onto iCloud and restore them later on. – Rappler.com
