An announcement on the BlackBerry blog points to a September 21 release for BBM on Android, slated for 7 am EDT. The iOS version will be available beginning 12:01 am of September 22.

Aside from a unique PIN, features announced for the Android and iOS versions of BBM include the ability to share files over the app, group chatting functions, and a status update to inform people of how you are before they message you.
