MANILA, Philippines—There’s no escaping Facebook (Groups).
Most users are well aware of the “seen” feature on Facebook chat – which lets users find out if the person they are chatting have seen their messages – but did you know that soon, you’ll be able to track who’s seen posts on Facebook Groups?
In a statement released July 11, the popular social networking site announced that it would soon enable the “seen” feature for Facebook Groups.
Located on the lower right side of every post, Facebook will now tell you who in the group has seen the post—and what time they saw it. The feature can be useful, especially for organizations who use Facebook Groups for important announcements or events.
But it also has the potential for creepiness, as pointed out in a report on Gawker.
“If such a feature ever made its way to the News Feed or users’ Walls then… wow. Imagine keeping tabs on exactly who’s seen a particular personal status update and you find yourself in a whole new world of neuroses,” Gawker reported.
In an interview with TechCrunch, a Facebook spokesperson said that they were “not going to discuss what (they) might (or might not) do in the future.”
Neither Facebook nor Gawker said just when the feature would roll out for all users. As of posting, the feature isn’t available on our Facebook Groups.
