This smartphone app can help you commute faster around Manila

MANILA, Philippines – Tired of taking forever to commute in Metro Manila because you don’t know the schedules, where the nearest mass transit station is or which ones are crowded?

Then this smartphone app is for you.

MRTtracker, launched two months ago on Facebook and Twitter, is now a mobile application that allows users to track the mass transit system in Manila with real time information provided by the developer and commuters themselves.

The app helps you locate the nearest train station within your area, figure out the best itinerary for your trip and notifies you when you have arrived at your destination with a voice alert so you won’t miss your stop if you can’t hear the announcer.

All the information is updated in real time with tips from passengers, who are encouraged to submit situation reports to improve the service on the MRT, LRT1 and LRT2 lines.

  • MRTtracker also allows users to consult the estimated congestion of passengers at any particular station, so you can avoid those which are more crowded.

The app has gotten positive feedback so far on Twitter:

MTRtracker, still in beta version, is currently available for Android phones and will soon be launched for Blackberry and iOS. – Rappler.com
