MANILA, Philippines - One of the best known traits of a Filipino, even during crisis situations, is humor.
After Typhoon Gener (international name Saola) left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), it rained almost continuously since Monday afternoon, August 6, to Wednesday evening, August 7, bringing floods to the metro and nearby provinces.
Despite the destruction left behind by the nonstop monsoon rain, Filipino humor could not be contained for long. Others resorted to prayer and prayer brigades.
Social media became a natural outlet for many who tried to make light of an otherwise dire situation. Call it survivors' instincts or a coping mechanism, but Photoshopped photos and memes were shared on Facebook by Pinoys trying to make use of idle time or simply trying to have more fun.
Facebook user Jethro Daya even uploaded a video of kids having fun diving into the heavily flooded Quiapo underpass.
Here's an initial compilation of what we found on social media.
