Bakeshop to give out P5M worth of free ‘Duterte cakes’
The gesture is its owner's way of staying true to its promise of giving out cakes if Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte wins the elections

MANILA, Philippines – Quim’s Cafe and Bakeshop in Tomas Morato is set to give out 5 million worth of cakes, as a promise made should Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte win in the 2016 elections.

In November 2015, Jack Labang, a pastry chef from Quim’s Cake expressed his sentiments on the presidential bid of poll front-runner Rodrigo Duterte. Labang criticized the Mayor for being a “liar” when he officially ran for office after repeatedly saying that he will not. Labang has since then taken down the post.

Duterte categorically said that he would not run for president and said he would retire after his term as Davao City mayor ends.

In December of the same year, however, Duterte made his presidential bid official. According to Duterte, it was the Senate tribunal decision favoring Senator Grace Poe’s presidential bid which made him run.

Labang challenged Duterte’s supporters that if Duterte wins, he will distribute P5 million worth of cake samples for free.

As of this writing, Duterte leads the race with 38.5% or a total of 15,873,846 of the transmitted votes.

With the overwhelming victory of Duterte evident, the bakeshop posted a statement on Facebook saying it would stay true to its word.

“To celebrate a clean and free elections and in honor of our new leaders, we stay true to our promise of sampling 5 million worth of cakes in scheduled batches,” Quim’s cake said in its Facebook post.

People who wish to try the cakes need to like the bakeshop’s Facebook page and register.

The bakeshop hopes that the fulfillment of their promise will come hand in hand with Duterte’s realization of his plans for the Philippines.
