MANILA, Philippines - Dumaguete is the next stop of Rappler's Move.PH Chat Series. Silliman University is co-sponsoring the event entitled “Social Media for Social Change: Pushing Environmental Journalism Forward” on Friday, November 16, from 12:30 to 5:00 pm at the Silliman Hall.
The event will be headlined by Maria Ressa, former CNN Jakarta Bureau Chief and now Rappler CEO and executive editor. She will be joined by journalists Chay Hofileña, Patricia Evangelista, Natashya Gutierrez, and Josh Villanueva. They will explore the convergence of journalism and social media and how it can be tapped to bring about meaningful change.
Dr Ben S. Malayang III, President of Silliman University, will discuss the practice and prospects of environmental journalism.
The half-day chat session seeks to bring together students, teachers, environmental advocates, development communication practitioners, civil society groups, the private sector and local/community media institutions, as well as individuals in Dumaguete who want to bring about change.
