MANILA, Philippines – Rappler is looking for idealistic, dedicated and skilled interns. Are you the one we’re looking for?
Rappler is opening its June-October internship program to college students and fresh graduates interested to learn directly from the company’s experienced and skilled team of editors, reporters, researchers, photojournalists, graphic artists, and sales managers.
Since Rappler formally opened its internship program over a year ago, the company has been a training ground for at least a hundred students coming from various universities and diverse fields.
Interns have hailed from different universities such as Ateneo de Manila, University of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, University of Sto Tomas, San Beda College-Alabang, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Far Eastern University, and the Royal University of Phnom Penh.
Taste of the real world
Fair warning, a Rappler intern has to be prepared for battle. Interns are not expected to do menial tasks like making coffee or photocopying documents. Instead, they will be plucked out of their comfort zones to get a taste of how things work in the real world.
Rappler’s internship program is anchored in the belief that the best way to hone the craft of story-telling is through first-hand experience. They will be given the chance to maximize the lessons they learned in the classroom by applying them to real life situations.
Previous interns experienced the fast-paced life inside and outside the newsroom especially during Rappler's coverage of national events.
From June to October, Rappler needs around twenty (20) interns. Successful applicants will be assigned to various units based on the interns’ skills and interests.
It may be possible for an intern to rotate among different units throughout their internship, such as engaging communities in MovePH, covering stories for Life & Style, assisting in shoots for Production and creating grahics for the Graphics department.
Interns are expected to commit to a regular work schedule and will be evaluated based on the quality and timeliness of their output.
