#MoveIlocos: social media and honest elections
MANILA, Philippines - Rappler, through its citizen journalism arm, Move.PH, and in partnership with Northwestern University (NU), brings its "Social Media for Social Change" chat series to Ilocos.
Dubbed #MoveIlocos, the12th of the chat series will be held on February 22, 2013, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, at the NU Media Center in Laoag City.
Carrying the theme, "Ti akem to social media tapno magun-od ti napudno nga pinagpipili" (The role of social media in achieving honest elections), the event will gather students, teachers and advocates of good governance as they prepare for the upcoming 2013 local and national elections.
Rappler CEO and executive editor Maria Ressa leads the morning session with the keynote address, "Pushing Change on Social Media."
Veteran journalist and Rappler's citizen journalism director Chay Hofileña will also present insights about how citizen journalists can alter election culture.
Other members of the Rappler team will likewise share their experiences as multimedia journalists.
Social media head Michael Josh Villanueva will discuss how to use social media for better elections.
Young journalist Paterno Esmaquel II will talk about the fun and challenge of being a multimedia reporter.
Finally, Patricia Evangelista, who is also one of Rappler's multimedia reporters, will elaborate on the importance of telling compelling stories.
Rappler Managing Editor Glenda Gloria will serve as the moderator for the event.
