MANILA, Philippines — Technology for social good: that’s the main idea behind two one-day conferences organized by Rappler and Google in August and September. Both are +SocialGood events.

Rappler, which aims to redefine traditional journalism by using technology for greater civic engagement, partners with tech search giant Google to explore ideas that are disrupting businesses and societies around the world. More specifically, we focus on the Philippines and explore what Filipinos can do with these emerging global trends.

On Friday, August 23, 2013, we mount #ThinkPH: The Internet, Big Data & You. The one-day summit at the New World Hotel looks at how the Internet has disrupted traditional business models: how the development of social media and crowdsourcing has put power in the hands of ordinary people; and how digital exhaust is now big data. What is big data, and why is it the hottest trend in technology today? How can you use it in your life both personally and professionally?

This event is by invitation only.  If you’d like an invitation, please email desk@rappler.com with #ThinkPH in the subject line. Those interested in sponsoring, please email sales@rappler.com.  A limited number of seats will be released to the public closer to the summit date.

On Saturday, September 21, 2013, join us for the PH+SocialGood: The Social Good Summit in Manila – Rappler’s second since the website began in January, 2012. Held again at the Asian Institute of Management, this summit looks at how social media and technology can be used to solve some of the world’s stickiest societal problems.

If last year’s Social Good Summit led to discussions of how social media can be harnessed, this year, we move beyond talk to action.

2012 Social Good Summit:

The 2013 Social Good Summit in Manila will be open to the public.

Both August and September Summits are part of +SocialGood, a global community of innovators, social entrepreneurs and thought leaders united around a shared vision: that technology and new media can contribute to a better world.
