What can you do to help end the selling of sex photos and videos involving Filipino children?

MANILA, Philippines – The online child porn industry needs to be stopped, and we need to work together to do that.

The Philippines has become “the source” of the billion-dollar global child cybersex industry, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

On Friday, October 31, MovePH held the #FightChildPorn Twitter Conversation to brainstorm with the online community on what the government, the private sector, parents, and each and everyone of us can do to solve this problem.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Wednesday, October 29, said that the government is getting help from the private sector to develop a system that will filter sites with pornographic content involving children on phones, public Wi-Fi networks, and home computers.

This has sparked the attention of online users.

“Is it possible to stop cybersex whilst respecting the privacy of all users?” asked @xandipiggy. “Beyond the filtering, does the Philippine government have the capacity to do so?” asked Rappler’s David Lozada.

Issues like poverty and lack of awareness on the part of the parents were also raised.

“Beyond blocking sites, stricter laws must be passed to discourage parents from peddling their kids online,” tweeted @pinoymommy.

Everybody has a role to play in eradicating child pornography. Should the private sectors be held accountable? What can we, as individual citizens, do? Read back on the online conversation below.

In matters like these, time is of the essence. What can you do to #FightChildPorn– Rappler.com
