Glow in the dark: Join Earth Hour 2015

MANILA, Philippines – To observe the annual Earth Hour, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)-Philippines will hold a Zumba Party for participants of the switch-off event in the Philippines. (READ: Glow-in-the-dark Zumba for Earth Hour 2015)

The main switch-off shall be held at the Quezon City Memorial Circle on Saturday night, 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, March 28. 

WWF-Philippines invites participants to come in glow-in-the-dark Earth Hour shirts or neon sports attire.

Over the past 8 years, the movement has grown from a symbolic switch off event to a fun, modern, and open-sourced environmental campaign mobilizing hundreds of millions of people in over 7,000 cities and 162 countries.

Gift of light

Earth Hour 2015 highlights concrete actions on renewable energy and energy-efficiency, plus climate-centric education, legislation, and business practices.

More than a symbolic switch-off for the planet, the event aims to deliver concrete solutions to people in need, according to WWF-Philippines.

This year’s Earth Hour Philippines celebration seeks to raise funds for WWF’s Gift of Light project which aims to provide solar-powered lamps to remote villages in Northern Palawan.

WWF-Philippines will offer off-grid communities power, helping families in Palawan to “safely and economically light up their homes.” WWF- Philippines will deploy hundreds of portable solar lamps that rely on the power of the sun, eliminating the need to buy fuel.

WWF-Philippines is teaching communities to veer away from fossil-fuels, which contributes to climate change.

Launched by WWF in Australia in 2007, Earth Hour has been held annually across the globe on the last Saturday of March as a symbolic action to raise awareness on the threat of climate change. – Rappler.com
