#YolandaPH (Haiyan): Filipinos worldwide heed call to action

MANILA, Philippines – Relief efforts began as soon as the devastating Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) had left the Visayas. In different areas of the affected region, government agencies, businesses, and NGOs, are trying to focus their efforts on providing relief for the millions left without food, water and proper medicine.

Learning about the storm through international news and social media, Filipinos outside the country have also heeded the call to help. (READ: #ReliefPH: Victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) need your help)

The Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) and the United States Action Against PDAF (USAP Coalition) are accepting monetary donations at this time. Singing in the Rain: Benefit Concert for Philippine Typhoon Victims, 58 Plympton Street, Cambridge, MA, organized by the Harvard Philippine Forum at Quincy Dining Hall, is holding a concert on November 15 at 8 pm. Suggested donation at the door is $5. For those who can’t go but would still like to help, you can through their Indiegogo page.

Illinois St. Chicago, Illinois) on November 15, Friday, 11:30-3pm. A special Filipino menu will be served and all proceeds will go to the Philippine Red Cross. Georgetown University’s Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching and Service has set up a fund to support the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief work currently happening in the Philippines. Donations to the fund can be made through the CSJ website. All donations will be directed to the Society of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, which has a project on the ground in Ormoc, Leyte.

AT&T and Verizon are offering free calls and texts to the Philippines for costumers to contact their family and friends in the wake of Tyaphoon Haiyan until November 30.
#Mixrelief was set up by a group of Las Vegas DJs donating their mixes to raise funds immediately for the American Red Cross. All proceeds go directly to Red Cross’ efforts to provide aid to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
YachtAid Global, based in San Diego, CA, will match dollar for dollar all funds raised specifically for Philippines Typhoon Relief. The organization delivers supplies to areas in need via yatchs. They also set up a travel fund for cover travel cost for verified Filipino crew to get home to the Philippines to search for family or to aid in the recovery effort. More details on their website.
BAHAlA na tribe, a group of Filipinos in Texas, through AdoboHoeDown, is accepting donations and launching a t-shirt drive for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
The Angeles City Clark Bilabago Lions Club is having a donation drive for cash and in kind donations. The relief goods will be brought to the Haiyan affected municipalities of Sara and Ajuy, Iloilo; Bantayan and Madridejos, Cebu; and Merida and Ormoc, Leyte. A “Typhoon Yolanda Relief Drive” under GivenTree.com (non-profit organization) is collecting funds for disaster relief efforts. The project involves the Stanford Emergency Medicine Program for Emergency Response (SEMPER) and the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation. Funds will be used to cover communication devices, as well as medical equipment and supplies the response team will use on the ground. For more information, click here.

KASAMA: the Filipino Club of Yale will be hosting a fundraising concert for the benefit of the victims of typhoon Yolanda on Thursday, November 21, 7-9:30pm at SSS114. Tickets are are $5 pre-sale and $7 at the door, with the proceeds going to the Yolanda survivors. The concert will be followed by a candelight vigil in the Siliman courtyard.

The CSFA Benefit Program, a part of the Filipino community in Minnesota, is holding a concert called Giving Philippines Hope on November 24, 3-6pm at the Guardian Angels Church (8260 4th St. N, Oakdale MN). There will be a silent auction and a bake sale. Second plate collection for all masses will be given to the Philippine Red Cross.

Canada

Canadians may also donate through the Canadian Red Cross. Financial donations can be sent online, can be coursed through local Red Cross offices, or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
Rescue Capiz is a group of volunteers in Canda and North America, who aim to assist victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan in Capiz province. They have an on-going relief drive to support communities in Pan-ay, Maayon, and Mambusao. More details on their website.

Hong Kong

Students at Discovery College, Hong Kong have set up a collection box at the front of the school to collect donations for the typhoon victims. Collection period is from November 14 to next week. A dress casual day on Friday, November 22 is also set up for students to dress in colors of the Filipino flag and give cash donations that will be forwarded to approved organizations working in the typhoon affected areas. Triskelion Singapore Council is organizing a mass collection for people in Singapore who want to donate (clothes, food items, etc) but are unsure where to drop off goods. Donations will be directly picked up from your location and brought to the Bayanihan Centre where they will be packed and shipped to the Philippines via LBC and A-Freight Cargo. Food Bank Singapore is organizing an Emergency Meal Packing activity to send 90,000 meals for the typhoon victims. Donors are needed to sponsor the meals which cost $0.50 each. St. Vincent de Paul Church at 301 Yoi Chiu Kang road is collecting relief goods on Sunday, November 17 from 8am to 8pm.
Proceeds of the GK Singapore 5K/10K Fun Run will be given to the victims of the super typhoon. It will be held on Sunday, November 24 at the Bedok Reservoir.
Sagip-Tulong 2013, a fundraising festival, will be held on November 24 from 10:30am to 7:30pm in Hong Lim Park. Donations in cash and in kind may be dropped off.

Spain

Party for a Cause is charging a 5-euro entrance fee per person on November 16, 7 pm onwards at Valentino, Avenida de Bayona 32 Bajo Trasera 31008 Pamplona, Spain. All proceeds will be forwarded to the Philippine Red Cross.

Czech Republic

The Prague Shakespeare Company will donate all the proceeds from their November 18 show of “Cymbeline” to the disaster relief operations in the Philippines.

United Arab Emirates

Brunch for a Cause. This will cost AED50 and will be happening at the Philippine Consulate General and Philippine Overseas Labor Office Compound on November 15 from 11 am to 4 pm. Those who would like to attend are urged to bring relief goods such as canned goods, noodles, medicine, towels, soaps, and blankets. Aid of Hope is a charity event with several activities such as a charity lunch, walk for a cause, and a bazaar. It will be on November 15, at the Zabeel Park Ampitheater from 8 am to 5 pm. Filipinos Unite for a Cause will be working with the Red Crescent Society in this event, providing donation cans and boxes. All proceeds of the collection will go to the Philippine National Red Cross.
Filipino Fun Fiesta will be for the benefit of Typhoon Yolanda and Bohol Quake victims. This will be at the Wonderland Theme and Water Park on November 22 from 11 am onwards. For more information, click here.
Lunch for a Cause fundraising will be held at the Wonderland Theme and Water Park on Friday, November 22, 2013, at 11am. The lunch costs UAE50 a plate and all proceeds with go to the aid of the earthquake and typhoon victims in the Philippines.

Cooperating Aid Organizations (Samenwerkende Hulporganisaties) is a cooperative effort of aid organizations (Red Cross, Oxfam, UNICEF, World Vision, Save the Children, etc.) will have on Monday, November 18 a whole day of nationwide televised fundraising for the Phlippines with well-known Dutch personalities – tune in and call to donate or donate now via iDeal, Credit Card or Bank Transfer.

Australia

Australian Catholic University Postgraduate Association through “Donate Now Give Hope” aims too provide humanitarian services to the victims of the world’s strongest cyclone in the Philippines and to put into action our University’s mission and values of making a difference toward alleviation of human suffering and restoring dignity of every human being. Sint Maarten

The Filipino Community Foundation of Sint Maarten, Dutch Caribbean is organizing different activities for fund raising. Donation boxes will be set up in various groceries and supermarkets and on November 17, Sunday, Filipino children will have a lemonade sale in Grand Marche supermarket in Bush road. Towards the Pacific, a coalition of Israeli civil society organizations, is accepting donations for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan. Funds allotted for the relief mission are used to cover volunteers’ expenses and include their preparation for the mission, dispatch and living expenses during the mission. The delegation headed by Sauveteurs Sans Frontieres – Rescuers without Borders, includes a professional medical team of 7 volunteers that will carry out initial rescue from the debris and life saving medical aid. Save the Children is collecting donations through its website. Save the Children has a team on the ground in Tacloban working to respond to this emergency. They are focusing on blankets and mosquito nets for the affected families.

Back to Basics (back-to-basics.org) is selling recycled shirts with designs that support the Philippines online. Profits will fund around three shelter boxes containing food, water and shelter. A box can provide relief for 10 people for 30 days. Shirts will be available for pre-order until November 27, and will be mailed out by December 11. Designs can be viewed here.
Quickcauses.com is a transparent crowd funding platform aimed at empowering local citizens to solve problems in their own localities with credible projects with international funding support. Recently they have been helping a doctor in Manila to raise funds internationally to purchase medical supplies for the victims of Haiyan typhoon. At the moment, the platform is non-profit.
