MANILA, Philippines – America’s influence in the Philippines is clear – from the clothes we wear, the movies we watch, our use of English as second language – the colonial legacy continues.

It makes sense – we were a United States colony, after all, until 1946.

According to a survey by Pew Research, Filipinos see the United States more favorably than Americans do. While 84% have a favorable view of Americans, 85% of Filipinos surveyed had a favorable view of the US.

Of the Filipinos surveyed, 84% said they trust US President Barack Obama, while only 57% of Americans said they trust him.
