MANILA, Philippines  Megastar Sharon Cuneta and daughter KC Concepcion pledged millions of pesos to relief operations for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), which devastated provinces in the Visayas after hitting land on Friday, November 8.

Yolanda ravaged the Visayan provinces, mainly Leyte and Samar, where survivors have been left scavenging for food amid the ruins.

Some estimates say at least 10,000 are feared dead and losses are expected to reach US$15 billion. President Benigno Aquino however told CNN the number of dead, so far, might be closer to 2,500.

According to ABS-CBN, Concepcion pledged to donate P5 million pesos to ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya Foundation, on morning talk show “Kris TV.” The show aired on November 13.

Concepcion, who is also an ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme, pledged P3 million for immediate use and P2 million for future rebuilding.

The actress, who is currently shooting for a film in Ilocos, has been using social media to urge people to donate.

Concepcion’s mother, megastar Sharon Cuneta earlier pledged P10 million to the Aboitiz Foundation and TV5’s Alagang Kapatid Foundation.

Giving big

Other celebrities banded together to help raise funds for disaster victims.

According to Interaksyon, TV5 artists raised P30 million through “Gabi ng Kanta at Biyaya,” a telethon aired on the timeslot of Ogie Alcasid and Sharon Cuneta’s musical show “The Mega and the Songwriter.”

P5.5 million of the total amount was donated by Cuneta.

Celebrity sale

Several artists gathered big bucks for relief operations through selling and auctioning their own designer clothes, bags, shoes, and jewelry.

Husband and wife Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Ogie Alcasid are auctioning items for 10 days starting November 15 through Regine’s official Facebook Fanpage.

The couple’s branded items to be auctioned include designer gowns, watches, Hermes and Celine bags, and custom-made jewelry.

TV host Bianca Gonzalez, stylist Liz Uy, and PBA player JC Intal are also selling brand new and slightly used items. Proceeds will be used to buy bodybags for Leyte and Samar.

Anne Curtis

Celebrity couple Anne Curtis and Erwan Heussaff conducted a garage sale, which raised P370,000.

On noontime variety show “Showtime,” Curtis was also asked to create artwork for the Yolanda victims, which was later on auctioned, starting at P5,000.

In addition, the actress is also donating her talent fee for her “Annebisyosa” concert in Doha, Qatar on November 15.

Anne’s sister Jasmine Curtis-Smith donated accessories to “UkayAlalay,” a fundraising bazaar on November 16 at Heima in Brixton.

Similarly, GMA reports that celebrity couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera are spearheading a celebrity ukay-ukay (thrift store) from November 22 to December 1 at the Noel Bazaar, World Trade Center.

The couple’s ukay-ukay will sell items donated by GMA 7 artists.

Dermatologist to the stars Vicky Belo raised P190,000 by auctioning several designer bags. Belo is also organizing a garage sale on Saturday, November 16, in her Greenbelt clinic.
