MANILA, Philippines – For most women, a tube of lipstick can be a good pick-me-upper. Imagine what it can do to survivors of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

“I know it might sound trivial to some, but being involved in the beauty industry and also as women, Nicole and I understand how a tiny product like lipstick can do wonders for a woman’s confidence,” said Larissa Joson, an assistant beauty editor for Women’s Health Philippines.

Along with beauty blogger Nicole Romero, Joson is coordinating a “beauty drive” to collect beauty products for teachers who survived the super typhoon.

Joson said it was Education Secretary Armin Luistro who initially called for the donation drive.

The two are looking for brand new or minimally used products:

  • Makeup (particularly lipstick, blush, powder)
  • Skincare (facial washes, moisturizers)
  • Haircare (shampoo, combs, clips, headbands)
  • Toiletries (soap, lotion, body washes)

“These products are going to teachers, too; teachers who also victims of the typhoon, but are still holding classes in its aftermath. These women are heroes in our eyes, and of course we’d do anything to give them something to look forward to and make them feel a little better,” Joson said.

If you’ve got unused (but still fresh) makeup and other beauty products to give, contact Larissa Joson (larissajoson@gmail.com) or Nicole Romero (nicole@beautyandsparkle.com) for the exact addresses of dropoff points at Eastwood in Libis, The Fort in Taguig City, Bicutan in Parañaque City, Pioneer in Mandaluyong City, and Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa City.

Deadline for donations is November 28, Thursday, so they can be properly sorted and packed in time for Secretary Luistro’s trip to Tacloban City. – Bea Cupin/Rappler.com
