MANILA, Philippines – Do you worry about your daily meal?

While some Filipinos may not think twice about where their next meal will come from, many of the country’s poorest are “constantly” worried about their food situation, the World Food Programme (WFP) said, citing a survey.

From August 16 to September 5, 2015, the WFP surveyed poor households across 16 of the country’s poorest provinces. The survey was conducted by Laylo Research Strategies, with 1,600 respondents from both rural and urban areas, coming from lower-income households classified under classes D and E. The survey has an error margin of ±2.5%.

The results showed that some provinces are hungrier than others due to issues on local governance and self-reliance, among others.

Among all provinces, Sultan Kudarat, Zamboanga del Norte, and Eastern Samar needed “greater attention,” WFP noted.

Aside from securing access to food, the greater challenge is to find ways to improve nutrition for all, WFP said.

Another concern is corruption at the local level. The WFP calls it a “hindrance” to achieving food and nutrition security.
