DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Two people were killed when a bus carrying 46 passengers skidded off the road between the boundaries of barangays Tagdangua and Magnana in Pantukan, Compostela Valley, on Monday, July 27. The accident happened at around 5 am.

Pantukan police identified the fatalities as Maria Petronia Amarille, 59, a teacher in Lupon Central Elementary School, and Adome Andrade of Pantukan, Compostela Valley.
 The bus departed from Davao City and was on its way to Mati City when the accident happened.

Jessie Loay, Amarille’s nephew told Rappler that her aunt and husband Julio were on their way home from a vigil.


Neighbors of Andrade, who requested anonymity, said the crash victim, who works in Davao City, was on his way home to celebrate his wife’s birthday on July 28.

Dindo Bustamante, the bus driver, told the police that he lost control of the bus when he tried to avoid collision with a tricycle.

Adela Vilarta, one of the passengers said in a phone interview with Rappler that “the bus was running fast and when the driver hit the brakes it became uncontrollable until it skidded off the road and hit the barrier.”
