NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines – At least P6 million worth of illegal drugs and 4 illegal firearms were seized by the authorities in a buy-bust operation at a drug den in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, Saturday night, August 1.

The operatives of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operation Task Group arrested 7 persons, including a minor, at Purok 5, Barangay 1, in the said city.

Nabbed were Kyle Jareño, 22, who was the subject of the operation and is under the province’s drug watchlist; his 52-year old mother, Virgie; 18-year-old brother Kendrick; and 15-year-old sister, all of the said barangay.

Also arrested were Amado Baylon Jr., 54, of Barangay 9 who is under the city’s watchlist; Roberto Española Jr., 23, of Barangay Tapi; and Joemar Alvarez, 19, of FZO Subd.,Barangay 1, all in Kabankalan City.

Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, acting provincial police director, said authorities recovered 15 big plastic sachets, a bag and an aluminium tin plate containing suspected shabu, with an estimated weight of 700 grams.

He said it has a market value of P4.2 million, while its street value was pegged at P6 million. Nacion said  “this is the biggest recovery in the province so far this year.”

Police also seized 4 unlicensed firearms – a .22 caliber rifle, a KJ9 with a long magazine loaded with 20 live 9mm cartridges, a homemade shotgun, and a caliber .45 loaded with short magazine and 6 live cartridges. Also seized were several live ammunition of caliber .22, caliber .9mm, and caliber .45.

Aside from the drugs and loose firearms, the authorities also recovered marked money, two digital weighing scales, four motorcycles, two cellphones, an improvised tooter, a knife, a wallet containing P2,182 cash, and other drug paraphernalia.
