Doctors at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan will examine the detained senator's heart and gastrointestinal tract, after he experienced light headedness and acid refluxes

MANILA, Philippines – The anti-graft court Sandiganbayan has granted the request of detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada to go on a 3-day medical checkup at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan.

In a resolution, the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division allowed Estrada to undergo a checkup at the private hospital from 10 pm August 4, to 5 pm August 6.

Estrada, who is detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, had earlier asked the court to grant him a 3-day furlough for a checkup of his heart and gastrointestinal tract at the private hospital.

In his motion, the senator cited the recommendation of his personal physician, Dr Regina Bagsic, for a thorough medical examination. This was after Bagsic checked him in Camp Crame because of Estrada’s light headedness and acid refluxes.

Estrada had told the court that the checkup is intended to “rule out any cardiac and gastrointestinal issues.”

The Sandiganbayan’s 5th Division allowed Estrada to seek medical treatment for a “painful” shoulder at the Cardinal Santos hospital in April.

In March this year, the court allowed him attend his son’s graduation. He was granted another furlough in July, this time to visit his ailing mother-in law.
