JBC submits shortlists for 4 Court of Appeals vacancies

MANILA, Philippines – The Judicial and Bar Council on Monday, August 17, submitted to Malacañang, through the office of Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr, the shortlists for the 4 vacancies in the Court of Appeals (CA)

The 14 names have been nominated to replace CA justices

• Michael Elbinias, who died last November 26
• Rebecca de Guia Salvador, who opted to retire last January 31
• Hakim Abdulwahid, who compulsory retired last June 12
• Isaias Dicdican, who compulsory retired last July 4

The following are the nominees for each vacancy, and the number of votes that each got:

For Elbinias

• Selma Alaras – 6 votes
• Ruben Reynaldo Roxas – 6
• Jocelyn Solis-Reyes – 4
• Andres Bartolome Soriano – 4

For Salvador

• Geraldine Fiel Macaraig – 6 votes
• Danilo Sandoval – 6
• Maria Celestina Cruz Mangrobang – 4

For Abdulwahid

• Anisah Amanodin Umpa – 6 votes
• Perpetua Atal-Pano – 6
• Celso Baguio – 4

For Dicdican

• Danilo Cruz – 5 votes
• Angelene Mary Quimpo Sale – 5
• Joeffre Acebido – 4
• Gabriel Robeniol – 4

The JBC, which is chaired by Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, has 6 other members: Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, and former justices Angelina Sandoval Gutierrez, Aurora Santiago Lagman, Jose Mejia, and Maria Milagros Fernan Cayosa. – Rappler.com
