MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Fire broke out at the basement of Eastwood Mall in Quezon City, on Wednesday morning, September 30.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said in its Twitter account that the fire reached the 3rd alarm at 11:06 am, and that local fire units were on site to snuff out the blaze.

The MMDA said the fire was finally put out at around 12:43 pm.

Eastwood City Estates Association (ECEA) said in a statement that the fire was discovered at  around 10:30 am at the Eastwood parking area.

“A parked car short-circuited and caused a small fire. This was quickly discovered by security personnel and was immediately put out by the firefighting team of Eastwood,” ECEA said.
 
“No harm or injury was caused to any persons due to the incident and mall operations are proceeding as normal. The safety of our guests remains our number one priority and we will continue to assist any of our customers or residents should such incidents occur,” it added.

Some people who were in the area told Rappler that mall security allegedly confiscated mobile phones of those who were caught documenting the incident. – Rappler.com
