Ayala Bridge closed for 4 weekends starting Oct 12
The bridge will undergo post-tensioning and dampers installation works, the public works department says

MANILA, Philippines – The Ayala Bridge in Manila will be closed to motorists for the next 4 weekends of October, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.

To make way for post-tensioning and dampers installation works, the bridge will be fully closed to vehicular traffic on the following dates:

  • 10 pm on Friday, October 9, until 5 am on Monday, October 12
  • 10 pm on Friday, October 16, until 5 am on Monday, October 19
  • 10 pm on Friday, October 23, until 5 am on Monday, October 26
  • 10 pm on Friday, October 30, until 5 am on Monday, November 2

DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said one outer lane will be opened in each direction during weekdays to allow light vehicles to pass through.

An additional lane in each direction may be opened from October 16 to 31.

By November 2, the Ayala Bridge is expected to be fully opened to motorists. But other rehabilitation works, such as welding and sandblasting, will continue until December 23, Singson added.

The bridge, connecting the Ermita and San Miguel districts of Manila, was closed in March for structural repairs, which included strengthening of the bridge’s foundations, and lifting the structure by some 70 centimeters.

The DPWH also said that the retrofitting works, including the installation of high-damping rubber bearings and base isolators, will ensure that the bridge is earthquake-resistant. – Rappler.com
