Amid terror threats abroad, PH to stay on high alert

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines remains on alert amid violence in Belgium and Iraq, Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said in an interview on Easter Sunday, March 27. 

“Sa lahat ng pagkakataon, ang pangunahing isinasaalang-alang ng pamahalaan ay ang seguridad at pangkalahatang kaligtasan ng ating mga mamamayan, lalo’t higit sa kanilang paglalakbay pabalik sa kani-kanilang mga tahanan pagkatapos ng Semana Santa,” Coloma said during an interview on government station dzRB. 

(The government’s top priority at all times is the security and overally safety of its citizens, especially during their travel back to their respective homes after the Holy Week.)

“Nanatiling maagap at mataas ang antas ng kahandaan ng pamahalaan sa pagtugon sa anumang banta sa ating pambansang seguridad,” he added.

(The government’s preparedness for addressing any threat to national security remains alert and high.)

Coloma explained that various security measures are being implemented in ports, terminals, and airports. These include vehicle inspection, x-ray scanning, and examination of passengers and luggage at the entrance of airport terminal buildings.

He said such procedures have long been in place as part of the country’s overall strategy against terrorism.

“Lubos nakikiisa tayo sa buong sambayanan sa pagdiriwang ng Pasko ng Pagkabuhay,” Coloma also said. “Nawa’y sa nagdaang Semana Santa nagkaroon ng sapat na pagkakataon ang lahat upang magnilay at umani ng aral hinggil sa kahalagahan ng pagsasakripisyo at pagmamalasakit sa kapakanan ng ating kapwa.”
