MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III spoke before the 2016 graduating batch of students of the Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday morning, June 25.

It was his last formal speech as president of the Philippines.

In his close to 20-minute speech, Aquino, who graduated from the same university in 1981 with a degree in Economics, challenged his co-Ateneans to be men and women for others.

He said, “Nawa’y humayo kayo at maging ‘Lux in Domino,’ taas-noo kayong maging Men and Women for others, at maging mga exemplar ng sigasig, malasakit, at integridad sa mahaba ninyong paglalakbay ‘down from the hill.'”

(May you be “Light in the Lord,” with your head up high, be Men and Women for others, and be exemplars in diligence, compassion, and integrity in your long journey ‘down from the hill.’)
