Too few applicants: UST cancels 2 programs for 2016-2017
The Journalism and Legal Management programs of the University of Santo Tomas are cancelled due to the low number of enrollees – an effect of the K to 12 program

MANILA, Philippines – The University of Santo Tomas (UST) will not be offering Journalism and Legal Management for academic year 2016-2017 as the full implementation of the K to 12 program resulted in the low number of college freshmen.

Assistant Dean Narcisa Tabirara confirmed on Friday, July 15, to The Flame, the official publication of the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB), that the two program offerings will not push through for this school year due to the “low number of qualified applicants.”

The current roster of qualified students for both programs – 6 for Journalism and 11 for Legal Management – are way below the required number of at least 40 enrollees for a “viable” class.

Those who passed the two cancelled programs were instead given the option to pursue either Communication Arts (CA) or Political Science (PolScie) in the same university.

Tabirara added that professors and instructors of Journalism and Legal Management can teach courses under CA and PolScie. – Rappler.com
