Faeldon to BOC officials, employees: Support reforms or die
Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon says he would not let anything block his bid to reform the graft-ridden agency

MANILA, Philippines – Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon has vowed to do everything in his power to reform his agency, including “killing” those who block these efforts, he warned officials and personnel of the bureau on Friday, July 22.

Faeldon made the threat during a meeting with almost 50 officials and personnel.

The former Marine officer summoned them, along with other officers from the Enforcement and Intelligence Group, for a meeting as part of his reform agenda at the BOC.

“If have to kill one of your officials every opportunity I get I will do that,” a visibly peeved Faeldon said. “If that is the only way to reform the bureau. Naiintindihan ninyo ako (Do you understand me)?”

“Yes,Sir,” the officials and personnel meekly responded.

In a video clip of the meeting aired on GMA7, Faeldon was seen banging the table with his hand a few times as he spoke to the group, mostly from the Assessment Division and section heads in the Manila port.

This was the second time he  threatened to kill corrupt officers and employees of BOC in his bid to reform the agency.

The first was when he addressed the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Incorporated (FFCCII), where he vowed to clean up the BOC even if he had to take drastic measures.

“If I cannot touch them legally, I will have to start shooting them one by one,” Faeldon was quoted as saying.

The BOC chief’s tone has changed since he first addressed the agency when he assumed office 3 weeks ago. At the time he gave all personnel in the graft-ridden agency a “clean slate.” (READ: Faeldon: No firing at Customs just reforms)

He had earlier hired 20 former mutineers from the Magdalo group for BOC posts requiring “outdoor functions.” – Rappler.com
