On her husband's 4th death anniversary, the Vice President turns over a school building and speaks at an Alternative Learning System class graduation in their home province of Camarines Sur

MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Leni Robredo took the bus going home to Camarines Sur early Thursday, August 18, to commemorate with the people of Naga the 4th death anniversary of her husband Jesse Robredo, the city’s longtime  beloved mayor.

This was the first time Leni graced the memorial events for her husband as Vice President.

Former President Benigno Aquino III in 2015 signed a law declaring August 18 as Jesse Robredo Day. It is a regular working holiday nationwide while it is a special non-working holiday in Naga City, where Jesse served as mayor for almost two decades.

Meanwhile, their daughters Aika, Patricia, and Jillian stayed in Manila to lead the tribute organized by the Jesse M. Robredo Foundation at Mary the Queen Parish in San Juan City.

At 8 am, Leni and fellow Nagaueños visited Jesse’s grave at the Eternal Gardens, where she was also praying when she received news in May that she had been proclaimed the winner of the vice president election. (READ: Robredo wins as VP on late husband’s birthday)
