Police nab P24-M shabu from Kerwin Espinosa’s ‘bodyguard’
Max Miro, a self-confessed bodyguard of alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa, points to the stash after he voluntarily surrenders to authorities

LEYTE, Philippines – Albuera  town police seized P24 million worth of shabu from the self-confessed bodyguard of suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa on Friday afternoon, September 23.

The police recovered the illegal drugs from Max Miro, the self-confessed bodyguard of Espinosa, in his home in Barangay Binulho in Albuera town. Miro voluntarily surrendered to Albuera police on Friday morning.

Police found a total of 3 kilos of shabu wrapped in 3 one-kilo packages of shabu.

Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espinido, Albuera police chief, said Miro is believed to be the “right hand man” of  Espinosa, who has gone in hiding since President Rodrigo Duterte demanded his surrender in early August.

Wearing jeans and a black hoodie, the 40-year-old Miro surrendered a loaded 9 millimeter pistol to the police.

Miro claimed that during the first police raid in the home of Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr in Albuera, Miro was with the other body guards but he was able to evade police.

He said he went into hiding in Cebu with his family, but later decided to surrender to Albuera police for fear of his life.

Espinido said information provided by Miro would be used to support cases to be filed against the alleged protectors of Kerwin in government and in the police force.

“We know that the Espinosa network was very wide not only here in the region. All we need to do is to continue and pursue our efforts,”  Espinido said.

“It is now vital that all those body guards of the Espinosa group surrender and cooperate,” he added.

Kerwin’s father, Mayor Espinosa, had voluntarily surrendered to Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa in August, after the President named him and Kerwin as allegedly linked to the illegal drug trade.

Mayor Espinosa, who denied being a drug lord, and members of his family were temporarily housed at the official residence of the PNP chief in Camp Crame, but were “evicted” following Kerwin’s refusal to heed the surrender deadline. The mayor has resumed his official duties in Albuera.
