MANILA, Philippines – There’s no stopping just yet for Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, as he again slammed outgoing United States President Barack Obama for interfering in his administration’s war on drugs.

Duterte said that he was defending the country’s “dignity” when he announced his split from the US, the Philippines’ longest ally.

“Mr Obama, what went wrong? Get your dictionary. Find out the right meaning of dignity,” he said at an event hosted by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines on Friday, November 4.

The President hit the US anew for threatening to cut foreign aid due to the reported spate of extrajudicial killings under his administration. He reiterated the country would survive even without financial help from the United States.

Duterte said the US threat seems to depict that he and the Filipino people are like a dog on a leash, with the master – the US – throwing crumbs or treats from a distance.

“Sabi ko, putang ina kayo. Leche ninyo. Putang ina talaga kayo because you violated our dignity as a Filipino people,” Duterte said, with lawyers in the audience applauding.

“Huwag ninyo kaming ilagay na parang aso na matatakot ako na mawalan ng aid (Don’t put us as if we are dogs afraid of losing your aid),“ he added.

Duterte has been slamming Obama and the US for their criticisms on the supposed human rights violations under the present Philippine government. He has since praised China and Russia and expressed intention to ally with the 2 nations.

Obama, in response, cancelled the meeting with Duterte, emphasizing the need for the Philippines to do the war on drugs “the right way.” – Rappler.com
