Cagayan State U robbed of P868,000 in fee collection, scholarship funds
Police say the suspects broke into the cashier's office at the CSU campus in Sanchez-Mira town over the weekend

CAGAYAN, Philippines – The campus of Cagayan State University in Sanchez-Mira town was robbed of P868,451 in fee collections and scholarship grants over the weekend, authorities said.

According to an initial report,  Sanchez-Mira police said the suspects reportedly used a crowbar to break into the cashier’s office at the town’s CSU campus on Sunday, November 6.

In his letter to CSU president Urduja Tejada, CSU Sanchez-Mira campus chief Froilan Pacris said the robbers took P868,451 in cash from the vault, consisting of school fee collections and scholarship grants from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Police said school authorities only reported the incident at around 7 am on Monday, November 7.

Investigators recovered a bond paper with blood stain, footprints on bond paper and latent prints of the suspects. They suspect an inside job as the suspects seemed familiar with the layout of the cashier’s office.

In an interview with a local newspaper, Honorato Carag, CSU chief administrative officer, said it might have taken the suspects two hours to destroy the vault.

Carag also said that the suspects ignored a smaller vault inside the room.

There were no CCTV cameras in the university, police said. – Rappler.com
