TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A hand grenade was lobbed at the house of an Apayao mayor in this city on Saturday evening, December 3, leaving one of the mayor’s aides dead and two of his family members wounded.

In a report, Tuguegarao City police chief Superintendent Jessie Tamayao said two suspects aboard a motorcycle threw a hand grenade at the house of Conner Mayor Leonardo Dangoy around 7:30 pm.

One of Dangoy’s aides, Medrano Dungi Pilic, died on the spot after sustaining shrapnel wounds on the head and chest. Dangoy’s son Leomark and granddaughter Aiza were also injured. 

Tamayao said the mayor was inside the compound during the blast, but was unhurt.

Neighbors also said they heard gunshots before the blast happened.
