MANILA, Philippines – Those who imagined a curse-filled conversation between President Rodrigo Duterte and US President-elect Donald Trump were not far off from reality, at least according to the Philippine President.

Duterte, during a speech on Wednesday, December 7, shared with the public snippets of their conversation complete with his impersonation of the colorful Mr Trump.

“‘You’re doing great. I know what your worry [is] about these Americans criticizing you. You’re doing good, go ahead. I have this problem on the border of Mexico and America, this goddamn shit guy,'” Duterte claims Trump told him.

His audience at the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in Malacañang could not help but laugh at his exaggerated American accent.

The Philippine President is an accomplished impersonator, having mimicked others like Foreign Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr and his law school professors.

Duterte claims he praised Trump for his victory, which he pulled off without much support from media.

Trump supposedly told him, “No media supported me and I did it on my own.”

“That’s why I’m very impressed with you Mr President,” replied Duterte.

At which point, Trump supposedly invited Duterte to have coffee with him if he happens to be in the US.

“Oh yes, when you come to Washington DC or New York City, look me up and we’ll have coffee. Maybe you can give me a suggestion, one or two, how to solve this goddamn son of a bitch,” Trump supposedly said.

Contrast to Obama

During his speech, Duterte also emphasized his preference for Trump over incumbent US President Barack Obama, who had been critical of his anti-illegal drugs campaign.

“Despite the protestations of Obama, picturing the Philippines, of course including me, to be murderers, here comes Trump,” he said.

After talking about his meeting with new US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim, Duterte said he would have Americans choose which of the US leaders they would emulate.

“Mamili ka kasi (You choose because), you want to be an Obama then suffer the consquences, you choose Trump – alam mo naman si Trump – pero at least, kaibigan ko (you know Trump – but at least, he’s my friend),” he said.

Duterte’s chumminess with Trump is in stark contrast to his open hostility to Obama whom he previously told to “go to hell.” – Rappler.com
