MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The husband of an American Embassy employee was killed in Makati City on Saturday, November 24, Tina Malone, Information Officer of the US Embassy in Manila, told Rappler.

Malone declined to disclose more details about the incident. 

“We understand that the Philippine National Police (PNP) have suspects in custody,” Malone said. 

“The US Embassy appreciates the cooperation of the Philippine authorities, and will work closely with the PNP in their investigation,” she added.

An ABS-CBN report identified the victim as George Anikow, an American who was allegedly killed by 4 suspects riding a Volvo at around 4 am, Saturday, in front of the gate of Bel-Air Subdivision.

The report quoted police as saying that Anikow was mauled and stabbed twice by the men following an altercation.

The report said the police withheld the names of the suspects, 3 of whom are businessmen and one is a student. One of the suspects also resides in the posh subdivision, the report noted.

According to the National Capital Region Police Office, Makati police brought the 4 suspects to the Prosecutor’s Office in Makati City hall for inquest at 1 pm Sunday, November 25.
