MANILA, Philippines – The alleged backhoe operator in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre was flown to Manila Tuesday, November 27, to be presented before the court.

Bong Andal arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from Cotabato City at 3:20 pm Tuesday, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). Andal wore a bulletproof vest, his hands tied.

Andal was arrested last November 24 along the national highway in Barangay Kapinpilan, Midsayap, Cotabato. He was arrested exactly a day after the third anniversary of the massacre, which claimed the lives of 58 people including 32 journalists.

Andal stands accused of operating the backhoe equipment that buried the bodies of the victims in a remote barangay in Maguindanao on Nov. 23, 2009.

At least 92 suspects in the massacre remain at large.

The CIDG said Andal will be brought to the Quezon City regional trial court for trial. – Rappler.com
