MANILA, Philippines - To raise public awareness on corruption issues, President Benigno Aquino III has declared every December 9 as National
Anti-Corruption Day, Malacañang announced Wednesday, November 28.
The date is in keeping with an earlier declaration made by the General Assembly of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). Manila is a signatory to the UNCAC, according to President Aquino.
"It is recognized that corruption poses serious problems and threats to the
stability and security of societies, undermining the institutions and
values of democracy, ethical values and justice, and jeopardizing
sustainable development and the rule of law," the President said in a statement.- Rappler.com
