MANILA, Philippines - The United States government extended its "deepest condolences" to the Philippines after the impact of typhoon "Pablo", which has left at least 238 dead in Mindanao.

“On behalf of the United States government, we extend our deepest condolences for the devastation and loss of life caused by typhoon 'Pablo' in the southern Philippines," US Embassy in Manila Chargé d’affaires Brian L. Goldbeck said in a statement released on Wednesday, December 5.

Goldbeck commended the efforts of local communities, authorities and the National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) "to evacuate citizens, prepare for the storm, and minimize loss of life before and during the storm."

"The U.S. government stands ready to assist the Philippine authorities as they respond to this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected," the statement added.

As of posting time, the death toll from "Pablo" had reached 238 with hundreds missing, as rescuers battled to reach areas cut off by floods and mudslides. - Rappler.com
