MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has added 4 more to its list of accredited partylist groups for the 2013 elections.
The poll body accredited on Friday, December 7, the following groups:
These groups were accredited for the party list in the past election, although they didn't garner the minimum number of votes to get seats in the House of Representatives.
On the other hand, the Comelec has decided to disqualify the following applicants:
This brings to 83 the total number of party-list groups that will participate in next year's elections. Comelec earlier approved 79 groups out of the original 289 applicants.
This is the lowest number of accredited party-list groups in the 6 years that the party-list system has been in place in the Philippines. The poll body allowed 187 groups in 2010, and accredited 153 groups in 2007.
Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr said the poll body will still have to decide on the fate of two other party-list groups.
Comelec has only a week left to finalize its list of accredited partylist groups. The poll body is scheduled on Dec. 17 to conduct a raffle of accredited partylist to determine their order of listing in the ballots.
The date of raffle was reset from its original Dec. 14 schedule. - Rappler.com
