Filipinos are less materialistic this Christmas – SWS

MANILA, Philippines – Filipinos are less materialistic this Christmas, according to a new poll by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The survey conducted December 8-11 shows that 46% of Filipinos want to receive non-material gifts, especially good health.

An almost equal percentage of 43% want to receive material gifts, particularly money.

It’s a huge difference from last year’s survey when 52% of respondents said they wanted material gifts and 33% said they wanted non-material gifts.

This Christmas, “good health” (25%) is the most frequent answer given by survey respondents. Last year, only 17% of respondents mentioned it.

The most frequent answer in 2011 was “money” (23%). This figure went down to 18% this year.

Among the non-material gifts, the most frequent answers aside from good health are: “family togetherness this Christmas” (14%), “peace” (3%), “better life in general” (2%), and “happiness/peace of mind” (2%).

Among material gifts, the most frequent answers aside from money are: house/lot (6%), food (5%), jobs/livelihood (5%), clothing/shoes (3%), gadgets/appliances (4%), car/vehicle (2%), gifts for own children (1%). – Rappler.com
