After almost 10 hours, fire fighters successfully put under control a fire that razed a 3-story commercial building in Divisoria district

MANILA, Philippines – A fire that broke out in the early hours of Christmas Eve in Divisoria district is finally under control.

At 10:09 am, after almost 10 hours, fire fighters succesfully tamed the fire that engulfed a 3-story Sun Master Building located between M. De los Santos and Tabora streets in front of the New Divisoria Mall.

The fire, which spread to two other establishments over that time, started at 12:30 am.

The fire alert level reached Task Force Bravo at 2:10 am and was elevated to Task Force Charlie at 5:45 am.

3 people are reported to have suffered minor injuries, while another was treated for dizziness.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, although firecrackers are the suspected cause.

Divisoria is a popular destination for shoppers because of inexpensive items being sold by commercial establishments. It is often crowded most especially during the Christmas and holiday season.

Fire fighters initially found it difficult to enter the building because it was still locked, and were forced to use an aerial ladder instead.

So far, the estimated damage caused by the fire has reached at least P1 million. – Rappler.com
